Sanctuary Consecration

Consecration Celebrations took place from April 28–May 19, 1974. The old organ was taken from storage, expanded and installed in the new sanctuary by the M.P. Möller Pipe Organ Company. Funding was provided by Fletcher Simpson, who had sat on his mother’s lap at the 1893 building dedication. In creating the current organ, Möller used another Casavant organ (Opus No. 1995 from a church in Roanoke, VA) to supply the majority of the new pipes. The final organ has a four-manual console and over 2,800 pipes.1 It featured prominently in the consecration celebrations, with demonstrations, tours, and recitals throughout the month.

Willet Glass Studios were once again commissioned to create faceted-glass windows in the style of the Wesley Chapel. More can be learned in our Windows Wednesday blog.
