Today for Windows Wednesday, we will begin examining Sanctuary Window 8, featuring Christ as the Son of God as its theme. The uppermost section of the window is, as all of the nave windows, a scene from the Old Testament. This image features Abraham’s vision of God.
We see the central figure of Abraham looking up into the starry sky. During this vision, Abraham is promised by God that his descendants will be more numerous than the stars in the sky. The hand of God is reaching from the sky with the letters “HA” to change his name from Abram to Abraham, changing the meaning of his name to “father of the nations.” The right hand of Abraham reaches to the six-pointed star of David, representing his role as the founding figure of Judaism. His left hand reached to a Christian cross and the Islamic star and crescent, representing that Judaism is the foundation for those faiths.
In the other two sections of this window, we will see this theme continuing of God revealing our relationship to Him in visions. Click or scroll over the image below to see the artist’s design for the window.

He brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your descendants be. No longer shall your name be Abram, but your name shall be Abraham; for I have made you the ancestor of a multitude of nations.” Genesis 13:16, 15:5, 17:5
