Crisis Counsels from the Scriptures #55

Psalm 60 – our focus in this week’s Crisis Counsels – opens with a description of a time of great trouble, along with lament over the hardship of the people. The beginning verses speak of a society that is falling apart – “tottering” and “reeling” – with images that resonate with our own time. But the Psalm recognizes that God is at work, and it continues in verse 5 to say:

Give victory with your right hand, and answer us, so that those whom you love may be rescued.

Psalm 60:5

The reference to God’s “right hand” is a reference to God’s power. The Psalmist looks to God as the one who can rescue us from deep trouble. Here is a key message for us, whether we are dealing with personal trouble or social ills: we find the ultimate answer in God, who can bring victory over the greatest of troubles.

Prayer – We look to You, O God, with faith, knowing that You are reaching to us with love and saving power. Share on X
