Crisis Counsels from the Scriptures #35

We continue our journey this week in Crisis Counsels through Psalm 3, a psalm written by King David after he had fled from Jerusalem during the rebellion of Absalom. Absalom had superior forces, and David was under serious threat. Yet he says in the psalm:

I lie down and sleep; I wake again, for the Lord sustains me. I am not afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.

Psalm 3:5-6

Although his reign and his very life are in danger, David says that he is not losing sleep over this! He proclaims that “I am not afraid of ten thousands.” The reason is because he has confidence that “the Lord sustains me.”

What a model for us! How often are we restless with anxiety? There is surely a great deal in the world today that threatens us; but David points us to the security that we have in God. We are encouraged to trust in God, that we may experience God’s sustaining presence.

Prayer – Release us from fear, O God, as we entrust ourselves to Your sustaining power. Share on X
