Crisis Counsels from the Scriptures #33

Our focus this week in Crisis Counsels will be Psalm 3, which begins,

O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying to me,“There is no help for you in God.”

Psalm 3:1–2

Prior to verse 1, the Psalm begins with an opening note which says, “A Psalm of David, when he fled from his son Absalom.” This provides the original context. Absalom had mounted a rebellion against his father. David, outnumbered, was forced to flee, and his prospects looked grim.

This Psalm has continued to be meaningful to people of faith through the ages whenever they have faced what seems to be an overwhelming threat. So the Psalm can speak to us! COVID-19 presents us today with an intimidating “foe.” In such times, our faith may be challenged.Yet it is precisely to his faith that David will turn. We will see, as the Psalm progresses, how David will call upon God and will find great reassurance. We likewise can call upon God in faith, and know that no matter how many our foes, we find our sure foundation in God.

Prayer – Strengthen us, O God, as we rely upon You in faith. Share on X
